New cabins for the municipal cable car in Huy, Belgium

On behalf of the French cable car manufacturer MND Ropeways, Calag Gangloff built two new cabins for the new construction of the reversible aerial tramway in the Belgian town of Huy, which has not been in operation since 2012. The two new cabins have a modern look with a very clear design that is reminiscent of the historic cabins of the Huy cable car. The generously glazed area provides a panoramic view of the city. The two shuttle cabins have a maximum capacity of 15 people each and are accessible for passengers with reduced mobility and cyclists in accordance with current requirements.

Individual cabins with great craftsmanship

The design of the new cabin was created by the renowned designers of Avant Premier from Lyon, as it is intended to echo the design of the old cabins, which were designed by Ceretti&Tanfani. Due to their shape, the cabins for the city of Huy are custom-made, the speciality of Calag Gangloff Kabinenbau. The rounded shapes of the panoramic windows posed a particular challenge during construction. For this reason, PET-G panes were used to create the curved shape and at the same time provide the necessary stability for the cabin. The guide rods projecting outwards serve to guide the cabins cleanly as they pass through the intermediate station and to protect the cabins from any damage caused by the guidance system.

The end result of the cabins for the cable car in Huy, BE, is certainly something to be proud of and will make an impression on locals and tourists alike. The unique shape of the cabins will give the town of Huy a trademark, which will also benefit the region in terms of tourism.
